Gary Schulman
Volunteer of the Year
Gary became involved with United Jewish Federation (UJF) when he was looking to join an organization that benefited Jews around the world. He first served on the UJF Board and the Allocations Committee in 2012. In 2013, Gary became Vice President of Finance, bringing 30 years of corporate accounting experience to this role.
During his four years as VP of Finance, Gary served as an advisor to the President and CEO on complex accounting rules for not-for-profits and helped improve the budgeting and allocations processes. He has had a critical part in the integration of best financial practices into the organization and has brought increased transparency of UJF’s financial data to UJF and the community.
Currently, Gary is employed by Citigroup as State Tax Director and Senior Vice President, and was previously a Senior Tax Manager at General Electric for 22 years.
In addition to being a UJF volunteer, Gary has been a member of the Board of Trustees at Bi-Cultural Day School since 2013 and is also a member of the Board of Directors of Piper’s Hill childcare center. One of his favorite volunteer activities was coaching for the Fairfield County CT Jewish Baseball League for several years. He also enjoys playing wallyball at the JCC.
Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Gary has been a resident of Stamford for 23 years. He and his wife, Nancy, also an active UJF volunteer, have two sons, Sam and Josh. Sam is a sophomore at University of Connecticut’s School of Engineering and Josh is an eighth grader at Bi-Cultural Day School.
